ANSWERS TO COMMON QUESTIONS

Can I choose a family to adopt my baby?

Yes, absolutely! You make all of the decisions. Every couple seeking newborn adoption in Colorado through Colorado Christian Services has been through a thorough screening process.

How much contact can I have with my child if I choose adoption?

While in the hospital you can have as much or as little contact as you desire. When planning for your child’s adoption, you can choose an open adoption which allows you to have ongoing visits with your child, or you can choose a less open adoption that keeps you informed about your child’s life through pictures, text messages and letters. You can also choose a closed adoption with no direct contact after your child is placed. It’s up to you.

Do I need an attorney?

No, it is not necessary for you to have an attorney —  but you are welcome to get one if you wish. At Colorado Christian Services, we are equipped to handle all the aspects of the relinquishment/adoption process, and we work with an attorney to make sure everything is handled properly.

How much will this cost?

There is no cost to you. We provide you with all of the counseling, parenting education and adoption services free of charge.

What if I decide to parent?

Colorado Christian Services will come alongside you in a decision to place the child for adoption, as well as a decision to parent. We can help you with a parenting plan, budget and provide the items you may need initially for your child, such as diapers, wipes, clothing and a car seat.

Does the birth father have rights?

Yes. Both you and the birth father have rights. If he disagrees with the adoption, or you no longer have a relationship with him, then Colorado Christian Services will work with you to find a way of notifying him of your adoption plan.

Do you offer assistance with medical and living expenses?

Yes. In Colorado, we can help with pregnancy-related expenses.

Do you only work with women who are placing infants for adoption?

No. We are dedicated to serving all women in need. Our caseworkers are eager to discuss your particular situation.

Will you come to me?

Yes! You are welcome to meet with us at our office or our caseworker will meet with you at a place you find more comfortable. And, we’re even happy to meet over coffee or lunch. We also do have the option for Telehealth Zoom meetings online.

How are adoptive parents chosen?

When placing a baby for adoption, the one question almost all birth parents have is, “How can I trust that the adoptive parents I choose are truly good people?”

We provide family assessments using the Structured Analysis Family Evaluation* (SAFE) instrument required by the State of Colorado. SAFE aids home study practitioners in performing a thorough, structured and uniform evaluation of families who have applied to foster or adopt.
